🌿 The Bamboo Toothbrush, Without the Greenwashing
Natural Bamboo • Soft Charcoal Bristles • 4 Animals • Zero Plastic
A plastic toothbrush takes more than 500 years to break down, and you throw away four a year. Switching to bamboo changes that. But before you order, there are a few things we'd rather tell you straight.
🌏 Where Does the Bamboo Come From? China.
You'll sometimes read “bamboo toothbrush made in France”. That's impossible: the bamboo used for this kind of product doesn't grow in France. Any brand that tells you otherwise is spinning you a story.
Ours is grown without fertiliser, in uncontaminated farming areas, far from industrial sites. Bamboo grows up to a metre a day and regenerates without replanting — that's what makes it a sensible raw material, despite the distance.
What we do control, however, is what happens next:
✓ It's shipped by train, not by plane
✓ Your toothbrushes arrive with no plastic packaging at all
♻️ Are the Bristles Biodegradable? No. Here's What to Do With Them.
It's the question we're asked most, and the honest answer is no. The bristles are made of nylon infused with plant-based charcoal, as on virtually every bamboo toothbrush on the market — including those that say “100% compostable” on the packaging.
The right way to dispose of it:
- Pull out the tuft of bristles with pliers (ten seconds).
- The bristles go in the general waste bin.
- The bamboo handle goes in the compost, or on the wood fire, or becomes a seedling marker in the vegetable patch.
✓ Around 90% less waste by volume compared with a plastic toothbrush, all of which ends up in landfill or the incinerator.
🎋 What About the Feel of Wood in Your Mouth?
The handle is polished and untreated:
✓ It isn't rough and leaves no taste
✓ Its ergonomic shape sits comfortably in the hand, even when wet
💡 The only care it needs. After use, shake the brush and stand it head up, rather than leaving it to soak. Bamboo doesn't like sitting in water.
🦁 One Animal per Person, No More Mix-Ups
Lion, giraffe, toucan, elephant. Everyone recognises theirs at a glance, including children who can't read yet. It's a small thing, and it's what solves the problem of toothbrushes getting mixed up in the bathroom glass.
🪥 Soft Bristles With Plant-Based Charcoal
✓ Soft: they're gentle on enamel and gums, and suit sensitive gums as well as children
✓ Fine and criss-crossed: they reach the gaps between teeth
✓ Plant-based charcoal: it limits bacterial growth between brushes, useful when the brush hasn't fully dried

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why send it as a letter rather than a parcel?
Packs of up to 20 brushes are packed to fit through a letterbox. Less packaging, no trip to a pick-up point, and a much lower carbon footprint than a standard parcel.
Is the bamboo certified?
It's grown without fertiliser in uncontaminated farming areas. If forest traceability is a deciding factor for you, write to us: we'd rather give you a precise answer than stick a label on a page.
How long should I keep a toothbrush?
Three months, like any toothbrush. After that, the bristles splay and clean less well — the handle material makes no difference.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, the soft bristles are suitable. The 17.5 cm handle is still an adult size: for smaller hands, take a look at the Caliquo kids' toothbrush.
